What is a Funeral Server?

Funeral Servers assist the friars in setting up for and serving funeral Masses at St. Mary’s Church.

How often and where does the ministry gather?

Servers are assigned to funeral masses depending on their availability. There are, on average, one or two funerals a week. Each one requires approximately 1.5 hours of the funeral server’s time.

Why choose to volunteer for this ministry?

The funeral server plays an essential role in the funeral process. It is an ideal ministry for someone who finds meaning in liturgy and prefers to quietly work in the background rather than being on center stage.

This ministry is essential to St. Mary’s and our Franciscan spirit because funeral masses are poignant liturgies that celebrate a person’s life and helps usher them into the Kingdom of God. Done well, they can also bring a great deal of comfort to the friends and families of the deceased.
